The City of Perth is pleased to advise construction works for the Winthrop Avenue Shared Path project will commence in early 2023. The delivery of a high-quality shared path along Winthrop Avenue has been a long term goal that was initially identified within the City’s 2018 Transport Strategy. The State Government also identified this as a primary route that represents a key ‘missing link’ in Perth’s long term cycling network. The project is jointly funded by both the Department of Transport and the City of Perth.
The upgrade and construction of this shared path will provide an important cycle link between Aberdare Road and Stirling Highway. Phase 2 of the project (to be commenced in subsequent financial years) will continue this important link up Thomas Street completing the missing connection for cyclists from Mounts Bay Road/ Stirling Highway to the Mitchell Freeway.
This project aims to achieve the following outcomes:
• Continue building upon a connected cycling network within the City of Perth
• Provide a safer and compliant shared path linking from Stirling Highway to Aberdare Road
• Create more inviting and healthy streets that encourage walking and riding
